Swissport wins easyJet business at Zurich Airport as of 1 September 2019. The five-year contract complements Swissport’s existing business with the airline in Geneva and at Basel‘s EuroAirport. Swissport will service some 120 daily easyJet flights at the three Swiss airports combined. On a global level easyJet relies on Swissport’s ground services at 19 airports.
Swissport was recognized with the “Innovator Award 2019” at the IATA Ground Handling Conference in Madrid, today, for its role in developing the "LiftSuit". The LiftSuit, a wearable exoskeleton, can help to prevent musculoskeletal injuries amongst baggage handlers.
Finnair Cargo has appointed Swissport as the new operator of its COOL Nordic Cargo Hub facility at Helsinki Airport, one of the most modern air cargo hubs in Europe. From June 2019, Swissport will handle over 600 tons of perishables, pharmaceuticals and general cargo daily.
Swissport achieved an operating EBITDA of 273.2 million euros in 2018, an increase of 24.1 percent over the previous year's result of 220.1 million euros. Total revenue from operating activities increased to 2.99 billion euros, up 6.7 percent from 2.81 billion euros in 2017.
Swissport officially unveiled its latest, newly developed Aspire Lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport last Thursday. In addition to the newly opened Aspire Lounge, Swissport, the world’s leading aviation services provider, was chosen to fully manage the newly opened Star Alliance Lounge, further expanding its hospitality services at the Dutch hub.
Swissport recently agreed to increase its shareholding in Heathrow Cargo Handling Ltd. (HCH) to 100 percent from 50 percent, which it held in a joint venture.
Swissport continues the temporary remedies standstill regarding the collection of the unpaid balance of its Affiliate Loan to HNA Group while HNA concludes its assessment of strategic options for Swissport. The remedies standstill was originally agreed in May 2018 and continued in October 2018.
Checkport, a subsidiary of Swissport International Ltd, is the first and only Swiss company having obtained the IATA certification "Independent ACC3 EU Validator" and may from now on carry out third country validations for air carriers.
Swissport is further expanding its business in the Middle East with new contracts from the Dutch airline KLM and the largest Indian carrier IndiGo. The Swiss aviation services company, global market leader of airport ground services and cargo handling, will provide KLM with ground handling services in Dammam. IndiGo will initially be handled by Swissport at Jeddah, followed by Dammam and Riyadh.
SalamAir of Oman has signed a five-year contract with Swissport for hub handling at Muscat International Airport. As of 1 January 2019, the Swiss Aviation Services company, global market leader of airport ground services and cargo handling, will provide the Omani carrier with a full range of services, from passenger services to ramp operations.
