Swissport wins Luxembourg-licence
Zurich/Luxembourg, November 11, 2008 – Swissport International, the world’s leading provider of ground services to the aviation sector, has been awarded (after a competitive tender process) a seven-year licence to perform passenger ground handling at Luxembourg Airport. The new operation is timetabled to begin during the 1st quarter 2009.
Swissport has been awarded a licence by Luxembourg’s ministry of transport which will enable the world’s leading ground handler to offer the full range of passenger and ramp services at Luxembourg Airport. Swissport is already active at the airport with its own cargo organisation, and will now expand these activities to passenger handling, too.
A number of airlines have expressed an interest in using Swissport’s new services. The next few weeks will be devoted to the associated formalities; but Swissport is confident of commencing its new operation in early 2009.
This latest success marks a further welcome step in Swissport’s current expansion within the key European market. Luxembourg Airport handled some 1.7 million travellers last year.
Swissport International Ltd., which is owned by Ferrovial, a leading European infrastructure and service corporation based in Spain, provides ground services for over 70 million passengers and 3.2 million tonnes of cargo a year on behalf of some 650 client companies. With its workforce of around 30 000 personnel, Swissport is active at 183 airports in 42 countries on five continents, and generated consolidated operating revenue of CHF 1.9 billion (EUR 1.3 billion or USD 1.8 billion) last year. www.swissport.com / www.ferrovial.com
