Aug. 22. Georges Peter, who headed Swissair's Basel station for many years and has been CEO of Swissport Basel AG since its creation in 1994, has been named CEO of Swissport France. He will be succeeded at Swissport Basel by Stefan Resele. Georges Peter moves to Nice to take up his new assignment on October 1. He takes over from Jan Tindemans, who will be leaving the Swissair Group at the end of August. Full arrangements have already been made for the September transition period. Georges Peter will be succeeded as CEO of Swissport Basel by Stefan Resele. Having served as a station manager for several years and been with Swissport International since its ground handling subsidiary was established - first in Business Development and now as Executive VP Operations - Resele brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He assumes his new duties on October 1.
Almost a year ago, Swissport began one of the most important modules within its added value program PLUS10 GroundSpeed. GroundSpeed is based solely on making an extra effort to reduce departure delays after the late arrival of an aircraft. The benefits for its customers are obvious: fewer delays, fewer missed connections, lower costs, not least of all, improved passenger perception. In total, Swissport saved 7923 hours for all its customers in the first six months of the year. This compares with 5755 hours saved between May-December 2000. Assuming that one hour delay is equivalent to USD 1000 - and this is a conservative estimate this means that Swissport has prevented this year an aggregate loss of USD 8715000. Since the start of GroundSpeed in May 2000 Swissport has saved more than 13000 hours or USD 15000000 for its customer airlines. Hong Kong/Zurich, May 7, 2001 Airlines pay tens of millions of dollars a year in fines, return tickets and associated costs for inadmissible passengers, or those travellers who are refused entry to their country of destination. Swissport therefore plans to team up with CGS, Customer Ground Services Ltd. Zurich, to create a joint-venture company that will tackle this often-overlooked aspect. To get a clearer idea of the real costs incurred through inadmissible passengers, Swissport International has set up the Checkport project, a joint venture with CGS of Zurich. The aim of the project is to tighten up document checks and thereby reduce both the number of inadmissibles and the costs they generate in the form of tickets to return them to their place of departure, the cost of looking after them before this can be done, the fines that are levied by the authorities and delays these procedures can entail. The new joint venture between Swissport and CGS will make inadmissibles handling part of the total ground services product. The Checkport project offers a powerful blend of CGS expertise in the document checking field and Swissport Internationals global network, infrastructure and distribution channels. The project should make its operational debut in July. Newly-opened stations Swissport awarded the Global Ground Handling Company of the Year 2001 (by the Institute of Transport Management) not only offers new services, it is also continually expanding its global network. In the last few weeks new stations were opened in Bremen and Hanover, Germany; Iraklion, Greece; Vienna, Austria; and in Atlanta, USA. Swissport South Africa has finally got a definitive operating license for Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban Airports. Zurich, March 26, 2001 Swissport International Ltd. began offering its services in Austria as of March 25. Some 45 staff of Swissport Austria GmbH offer passenger-related services at Vienna Airport. Swissport Austria began serving its first customers at Vienna Airport, Swissair and Sabena, on March 25. The company is currently in negotiations with other potential customers. Renate Adelmann, Swissports first female CEO, will head the new operation. She is tackling her new challenges with a pioneer spirit and a good deal of elan. "I tell everyone that we want to be the best in class. Average services can be found anywhere, says Adelmann. For this reason, she and her team place a great deal of emphasis on innovation and international diversity. This statement is reflected in the multi-cultural makeup of the team, that encompasses some 19 different languages. Renate Adelmann also places a great deal of significance on the companys cooperation with Vienna Airport. Swissport Austria is a subsidiary of Swissport International, an SAirServices company. The internationally active company serves 52 million passengers per year and also handles 1.4 million aircraft for more than 400 airlines at 125 airports. Swissport generated consolidated operating revenue in 2000 of approximately CHF 1 billion. Swissport International employs some 15,000 staff in 25 countries on four continents. By following the same successful strategy, Swissport is expanding further into the European, Asian and U.S. market. Swissport North America commenced ground handling services for Delta Airlines in Detroit on January 15, 2001. The new business unit is providing ramp, cabin cleaning, GSE maintenance and janitorial services. Passenger services will be provided by mid March 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia. With pleasure, Swissport can also announce the firm opening of its location Vienna by the end of March. Swissport Austria will be able to offer all services related to passenger-side-activities. Thanks to a memorandum of understanding with Airport Vienna, ramp services will be provided as well. The 2 launching customers of our operation will be Swissair and Sabena. The second opening in Greece will take place March 25, in Heraklion. Swissport Hellas will provide the whole range of handling services and for all types of aircrafts.
