Jan Tindemans has been named President and CEO of Swissport France. The amalgamation of activities of Air Littoral Assistance, Swissair Ground Services and Eurohandling (cargo partnership) under the umbrella of Swissport France represents the onset of a phase of expansion by one of the leading ground handling companies in France. Swissport France currently handles a volume of some 40,000 flights and 2.8 million passengers a year at the airports of Lyon, Marseilles, Montpellier, Nice, Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and Toulouse.

Swissport Dominicana is happy to announce the opening of the new airport in La Romana, Dominican Republic. The new airport was inagurated on the 14th of December during a lovely ceremony attended by the President of the Dominican Republic as well as the shareholders of the Central Romana Corporation owners of the airport. The first inter-continental operation was on the 18th of December by Lauda Air from Milan-Malpensa. The flight was on time and all services where handled according to Swissport's high standards. Swissport is fully equiped to handle all aircraft types from small single engine to B747, as well as the new generation aircrafts like the Airbus 330 and B777. Effective February 1st, 2001, the two companies will manage Swissport Executive, a facility specifically targeted for private and business aircraft at the Cote d'Azur Airport (LFMN) in Nice, France. Swissport has been awarded a comprehensive ground handling license for the new Inchon International Airport in Seoul, Korea. IIA is supposed to open in late March 2001 and Swissport is now taking all necessary actions to become operational by then. Swissport will offer a full ground handling service range as well as fueling. With Seol the ground handler Nr. 1 is strengthening its position in the Asian market.
Effective October 31st, Swissport International Ltd has sold its share interest in Fernley Airport Services Limited to Airspeed Hygiene Systems Ltd, a subsidiary of ISS UK Ltd. Swissport has decided to sell Fernley Airport Services Ltd. because it is focusing on the development of its core ground handling business. Swissport USA offers as from November 5th, full ground handling at Chicago OHare International Airport. With the award of Mexicana, Swissport enriches its service offer with ramp, cleaning, bagroom and de-icing, supplementing its existing passenger service business. On September 1st , 2000, Swissport USA commenced services at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky by providing ramp and cabin services to Delta Air Lines and Atlantic Southeast Airlines. Swissport was awarded this business line along with the responsibility for Cargo Handling, Pre-departure Screening and Skycap and Wheelchair Services.
In Argentina Swissport has created a joint venture with Aeropuertos Argentina 2000. Swissport Argentina S.A. started operations at Ezeiza airport, October 1st. Hugo Schreier, formerly Station Manager of Swissair in Buenos Aires, has been appointed CEO of this company. Swissport Argentina currently provides ground handling for South African Airways, Spanair and Swissair and plans to take up ground handling activities at other Argentinean airports very soon. Swissport Dominicana S.A., a joint-venture company operating under a management contract with Swissport International, will offer passenger handling services at the three main airports of the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo). Augusto Cavalcante, formerly Station Manager of Swissport in Rio de Janeiro will act as Operations Manager and Omar Azar has been appointed CEO of the company. All current customers of the joint-venture partners Airline Services Maninos S.A. and Caribe S.A. have been notified that with effect October 1st, 2000 all exiting service contracts will be transferred to Swissport Dominicana S.A.. Swissport Dominicana has been awarded the exclusive rights to provide ramp handling services and to operate an FBO at the brand new airport of La Romana. The La Romana airport will enter into service on December 15th, 2000 (beginning of high-season).
