Meet the faces behind Swissport: Hind’s aviation journey during Ramadan
At Swissport, our people are at the heart of everything we do. In this edition of Meet the Faces Behind Swissport, we spotlight Hind Al-Obaid, a Passenger Services Supervisor and Trainer based at King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia. With a passion for training and a commitment to exceptional customer service, Hind plays a vital role in shaping the experience for both passengers and Swissport employees.
As Ramadan approaches its final days, Hind shares her experience of balancing work and fasting, the significance of this holy month, and how her team supports one another during this special time.
A career built on growth and connection
Hind began her career at Swissport six years ago, drawn by the opportunities for career advancement and professional development. Since then, her journey has been defined by growth, leadership, and a passion for training others.
In her role as a Passenger Services Supervisor and Trainer at King Fahd International Airport, she oversees the daily operations of the passenger services team, ensuring that service standards remain high. She is also responsible for training new employees and conducting ongoing sessions covering everything from customer service best practices to safety protocols.
For Hind, the most rewarding part of her job is making a real impact on passengers’ experiences and guiding new team members as they develop their skills.
One piece of advice I always give to new employees is to prioritize empathy in every interaction. Travel can be stressful, and a little understanding goes a long way in creating a better experience for everyone.
Observing Ramadan while working in aviation
Balancing Ramadan with a busy role at the airport isn’t always easy, but Hind has found ways to stay energized and focused throughout her shifts.
"Fasting while working in a fast-paced environment takes some planning. I make sure to have a good pre-dawn meal (Suhoor) to keep my energy up, stay hydrated during non-fasting hours, and adjust my physical activity as needed."
She also appreciates the support from Swissport, which helps make Ramadan more manageable. Flexible scheduling and break options allow fasting employees to take necessary rest periods, making it easier to stay on top of work while observing religious commitments.
One of the biggest challenges, Hind notes, is juggling work hours and physically demanding tasks while fasting. The key to handling it? Teamwork and communication.
Having the support of my colleagues and supervisors makes all the difference. We understand each other’s needs and work together to make sure everyone can do their best.
What Ramadan means to Hind
Beyond fasting, Ramadan is a time of self-reflection, gratitude, and spiritual growth. For Hind, it’s also about community and connection—whether through Iftar gatherings with family and friends, or acts of service that give back to those in need.
Ramadan is a time to focus on inner peace, personal growth, and empathy for others. It’s a reminder to slow down, appreciate what we have, and support those around us.
As the month comes to a close, Hind looks forward to celebrating Eid al-Fitr, a joyful occasion that marks the end of Ramadan. It’s a time of togetherness, reflection, and new beginnings—and a well-deserved moment to recharge after a month of fasting and dedication.
