Planet
In our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our operations, we focus on the efficient use of resources, effective planning, lean processes, and invest in eco-friendly equipment and infrastructure.
Environmental management
Mitigating our impact
As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship and compliance with ISO 14001:2015, we have achieved global certification across our entire network. We are proud to be the only ground handler globally ranked in the top 1% of companies for sustainability performance by EcoVadis. Our comprehensive environmental management system, guided by our Global Environmental Manual, enhances our internal and external reporting capabilities, amplifying our contribution to environmentally responsible operations at the airports we serve while supporting our ambitious net-zero targets.
Fuel efficiency and emissions
Our path to decarbonization
At Swissport, we are committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with near-term targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2025.
Across our global network, we are driving a 10-year transformation focused on fleet electrification, operational efficiency, and the way our teams work in more than 49 countries.
Environmental protection on the ground
De-icing / anti-icing
To de-ice aircraft, glycol-based fluids are used in accordance with applicable regulations. These fluids are designed to be biodegradable under specific conditions and are managed to minimise environmental impact.
At Swissport, we optimise the use of de-icing fluids to reduce consumption, including the use of alternative application methods and operational efficiencies. The glycol mixture and its use are subject to national regulations and local environmental requirements.
Fueling
We are committed to meeting customers’ into-plane, GSE fueling, and fuel storage needs in an environmentally responsible manner. Our focus is on protecting the environments surrounding our operations and preventing fuel releases through clear operational controls and procedures.
Swissport manages fueling activities through its Environmental Management System and established environmental policies and procedures. All incidents are reported and investigated, and emergency response plans are activated in the event of significant fuel releases in alignment with local airport emergency procedures.
Managing resources responsibly
Waste management and circularity
Swissport is committed to reducing waste and improving circularity across its operations. Guided by our Global Environmental Manual and ISO 14001 standards, we apply structured waste management principles across all business areas.
Sustainable hospitality
New concept for lounges
Newly opened lounges are designed with sustainability considerations integrated into their development. Across the Aspire Lounges network, 100% have eliminated single-use plastic tableware as of 2025.
New locations feature upcycled materials, energy-efficient LED lighting, and locally sourced products, supporting more responsible operations and reducing environmental impact through the use of recyclable and reusable alternatives.
Environmental responsibility in the office
Greener offices
While the environmental impact of Swissport’s office operations is lower than that of operational activities, we continue to promote responsible resource management across our administrative locations. Regional teams and corporate offices are encouraged to reduce energy consumption and improve material and waste management practices through local initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Innovation
Tech-driven initiatives
Innovation and digitalization are shaping the future of Swissport’s operations and customer services. Across ground operations, air cargo, and airport hospitality, we are expanding digital capabilities that reduce paper use, improve visibility, and support data-driven decision-making.
We are evolving tools such as load-based forecasting, digital check-in, and mobile cargo processes, alongside partnerships like Airportr and trials of autonomous baggage vehicles at Zurich Airport.
