Biodiversity and ecosystems
At the airports we serve, our operations are often located close to areas of biodiversity, which can impact surrounding ecosystems. We work in accordance with airport policies and applicable environmental requirements to support responsible airport operations.
provide crucial habitats for wildlife and are often protected by local laws.
We have implemented specific measures to mitigate the risk from invasive species. For our cargo operations, we procure wooden pallets that meet ISPM 15 standards, ensuring no pests are transported via international flights. Additionally, we adhere strictly to international flight waste management protocols, processing cabin waste separately from domestic waste to minimize the impact on local ecosystems.
Ensuring environmental protection
Prevention of fuel spillage
Swissport is dedicated to providing fueling services while ensuring environmental protection by preventing fuel spills. To mitigate the risk of spills contaminating stormwater or nearby waterways, Swissport has implemented strict policies, such as the QHSE Policy Statement and Global Environmental Manual, integrated into employee training and daily operations. Site-specific measures, like spill containment systems and drainage separation, have been established in locations in Canada to prevent groundwater contamination.
Mitigating our impact
De-icing and anti-icing
Aircraft de-icing and anti-icing operations use glycol-based fluids to ensure safe winter operations. These activities are carried out in accordance with airport procedures and environmental requirements, including the use of designated de-icing areas and established operational controls.
We work to minimise environmental impact through controlled application processes and measures that reduce fluid usage, with recovery and treatment systems applied where available, in line with local airport infrastructure and regulations.
