OUR BUSINESS MODEL

Swissport is active in airport ground services, including adjacent services like lounge hospitality, and in air cargo handling. The benefits to this diverse business model range from exposure to the economic cycle, to profit margins, capex risk profiles and even staff training.

Airport ground services and air cargo handling complement each other perfectly and make for a resilient business model. Cargo handling yields higher margins at the cost of a steeper risk profile, as Swissport is often committed in long-term lease agreements with its cargo warehouses. Ground services adds stability to our revenue stream and is a very flexible business. In a market downturn it is reasonably easy to sell or decommission equipment, like a push-back tractor, or to adapt our workforce. Last, but not least, there are synergies in training and resource planning.

Our clients can customize the services they wish to source, ranging from a single service to full hub outsourcing. In 2023, Swissport handled some 3.9 million flights and served 232 million airline passengers. In the air cargo segment the company handled some 4.7 million tons of cargo.
